Cash, Catherine, The Slipper Orchids, Timber Press, Portland, Oregon, 1991.

Catherine Cash's book is a good discussion not only of the commonly cultivated genera Paphiopedilum and Phragmipedium, but it also gives insight into Cypripedium (our wild Lady-slippers), and Selenipedium. Each species is thoroughly described, its habitat and geographic distribution are given, and its cultural needs are pointed out. Most species are also illustrated.

Although the book came out only in 1991, it is quite dry and unattractive. All the pictures are found in the center of the book, and the emphasis of each entry is on the botanically correct description of the plant. This might be important for systematic botanists, but does not help the hobbyist much. On the positive side, though, information is very easy to find exactly because the book is so boringly organized...
